Fine ANTIQUE Hopkins & Allen TOP-BREAK 38 S&W Rev
Description: Fine ANTIQUE Hopkins & Allen TOP-BREAK 38 S&W Rev NICKEL & CASEHARDENED Double Action Revolver Here we present an antique Hopkins & Allen “Hinge” Revolver in .38 S&W, made circa the 1880s in Norwich, Connecticut. Hopkins & Allen was a firearms manufacturing firm founded in 1868 very much devoted to meeting the market demand for generally small and inexpensive “spur trigger” single action revolvers, later known as “Suicide Specials”, much like the term “Saturday Night Specials”. Companies like H&A were so effective at producing and marketing these with eccentric trade names—like Defender, Dicatator, Electric, Smoker, etc.—that they actually undercut similar production lines of Colt’s. They specialized in the 19th Century conceal and carry, self-defense revolver. In 1874, the Hulbert brothers bought 50% of company shares and H&A manufactured all of Merwin & Hulberts fantastic and high-quality revolvers. Later in the 1870s and 1880s, the company made more double action revolvers. This specimen is an example of one of those later double action revolver lines. The patent date is 1886 and this line in particular ran right up to 1899. In Sears catalogue No. 110, circa 1900, this revolver is listed in the nickeled, 5-shot 38 S&W for $3.75! This revolver features a top-break hinging design with an automatic star ejector, much like previous Smith & Wesson pistols. The hammer and trigger are casecolored. The overall condition is fine. The nickel finish is 90% and the case colors are vibrant. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match on the grips, frame, cylinder, ejector and barrel latch. Hard rubber grips are in fine condition. The bore is very good and the action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/4 inches in length. Caliber: .38 S&W Bore is in very good condition and the firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. Own a very interesting late-19th Century American self-defense pistol! Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
