Very Scarce Revolver w Great Cylinder Scenes
Here we present an antique Hopkins & Allen “DICTATOR” Percussion Revolver, made circa 1867. Only 1,000 of these were made. This was actually a successor to Thomas Bacon’s Pocket Revolver, having a few changes, but mainly rebranded as the “DICTATOR” on the barrel after Bacon’s operation was acquired by H&A. The cylinder features 5 distinct scenes in scrolled ovals including: a federal eagle with a clutch of arrows, an axe leaning against a barrel, a Native American brave, a dog, and a bear. Like other revolvers of this size, it was meant to serve as a concealable self-defense revolver.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The cylinder scenes are very nice and clean. The markings are legible. Serial numbers match and are lucky 13. The walnut grips show period wear, but are solid. The bore is in good shape. The action is weak and intermittent. Nevertheless, here is a very attractive post-Civil War Revolver!
