1970-71 Vintage Harrington & Richardson Model 925 Defender in .38 S&W Caliber
** Beautiful All-Original Example **
Description: This is a very cool vintage 2nd Model Harrington & Richardson Model 925 Defender revolver in .38 S&W caliber. It isn't too often that we run across one of these, especially as nice and clean as this one is. The 2nd Model H&R Model 925 Defender was introduced in 1964 and remained in production until 1972, and was the firm's compact self-defense/concealed carry gun. Chambered in .22LR or .38 S&W, the 2nd Model 925 Defender was built on a newly redesigned frame from the pre-1953 Model 925 and featured a top-break action, a 2.5" or 4" inch barrel, a gloss blue or matte black finish, a manual ejector, a 5-shot (.38 S&W) or 9-shot (.22LR) cylinder, a windage-adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight blade, and a square butt with a marbled brown plastic bird's head grip. The Model 925 Defender proved to be a great little revolver, very well-made and reliable while still be very affordable. This particular example is serial number AG35879, which was made in 1970 or 1971. As mentioned before, it is in great shape overall and would be near mint if not for just a few little aesthetic deductions. If it has had more than 20 rounds fired thru in the last 50 years we would be VERY surprised. The gloss blue factory finish is bright and clean rating 95% plus. The deductions come from just a few tiny little handling marks visible only under super-close inspection and from the social security number electro-penciled on the front gripstrap. The social is very lightly engraved and could be easily removed and the blue touched-up if the new owner so-chooses. The factory polished in-the-white hammer is still bright and free from any staining, discoloration, or pits. The bore in the 2.5" inch barrel is minty and mirror bright. The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves throughout the length of the barrel, and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections. The 5 chambers of the cylinder are equally as bright and clean, totally free from any defects or visible wear. All of the factory markings on this Defender are crisp and clean, and all of the factory serial-numbered parts are matching including the frame, barrel assembly, cylinder, ejector assembly, and top-latch. The unique factory 1-piece bird's head grip on this H&R is in good shape overall but has cracked in two places either due to the plastic breaking down over time or someone torquing down the grip screws too tightly (or a combination of both). The left-side crack is the most serious but has been repaired with glue on the inside and is now solid. The right side crack is very small just above the grip screw, and despite our efforts to make it open-up or move it remains solid. If not for these deductions the grip itself looks like-new, with no visible wear and lots of nice marbled color showing. The action on this H&R is both very smooth and very precise. It makes no difference whether the action is worked fast or slow, double-action or single-action, it is in perfect time. The hammer still has both the safety notch and the full-cock notch intact, and the trigger functions perfectly. All of the controls on this Defender are in perfect working order, including the top-latch which locks up perfectly tight and the manual ejector which works smoothly. This little 2nd Model 925 Defender should function just as well today as the day it left the factory 50 years ago or more, and it still has 99% of it's service life remaining in it. If you have been looking for a neat new vintage revolver to add to your collection this 1970-71 production Model 925 Defender in .38 S&W would be an excellent choice.
