1920's H&R Trapper .22 Revolver in Great Shape!
Description: For sale, a beautiful little H&R Trapper model .22 revolver. The H&R Trapper was made between 1924 to 1941 and had a 6 inch octagon barrel and came in blue finish only. It was a double or single action revolver and the early production models held 7 rounds of .22 long or short ammo. Later in the 1930's, H&R started advertising their pistols and revolvers capable of handling the high speed .22 long rifle cartridge. The Trapper shared their serial numbers with the Model 1906 and the earliest Trapper serial number recorded that I can find is 108,999; and the latest is 182,482. This example, serial number 124,052 was built during the late 1920's based on those figures listed. This Trapper is in good shape for it's age and looks great overall. The top strap is stamped "Trapper Model". The barrel is stamped with the H&R Co. logo and "22 RIMFIRE". The factory bright blue finish rates a solid 92% with some speckling here and there but nothing drastic. Please see the pictures to see what I am describing. Most of the oxidation speckling is not visible from any distance except very close up. What is unique about this H&R is that this model is almost always found in really rough shape. These were inexpensive and utilitarian guns that were frequently used hard with little care used in their preservation. They are small light revolvers that were ideal for youngsters learning to shoot and for backyard plinking as well as carrying on the trapline or small game hunting, so not very many of these have spent their lives in a drawer or safe. This one seems to be the exception to the rule. The bore is bright and has strong, sharp rifling. The cylinder bores are also bright and free of pits. The factory checkered walnut grips are in excellent shape. They are free from cracks or repairs and they fit the gun very nicely. The checkering is still deep, relatively sharp, and clean. The gun is 100% functional and works just like the day it left the factory. The design of this pistol is such that the cylinder spins freely at all times except when the revolver is cocked. The cylinder locks up pretty tight when it is cocked and we would not hesitate to shoot it with .22 longs or shorts. We DO NOT recommend firing .22 long rifle cartridges in it despite the fact that they do fit in the cylinder. This is a really cool little revolver that we seldom see in such nice condition. It would be a great addition to any gun collection as an investment or a fun little revovler to take out plinking or hunting. Even though it is not in mint condition, I think it would be very hard to find one of these Trappers much nicer!
