BELGIAN GASSER VERO MONTENEGRO 11.3 Revolver ENGRAVED Bone Grip Leopold C&R Montenegrin King’s Favored & Decreed Sidearm
Description: BELGIAN GASSER VERO MONTENEGRO 11.3 Revolver ENGRAVED Bone Grip Leopold C&R Montenegrin King’s Favored & Decreed Sidearm Here we present a C&R Vero Montenegro Gasser Revolver, manufactured in Liege, Belgium circa the turn of the century. A Montenegro revolver is basically a large frame double action revolver chambered for the 11.3mm cartridge and primarily made in Austria, Belgium, and Spain. These were developed by Leopold and Johann Gasser of Vienna, Austria but made by numerous small Belgian, Spanish and Austrian firms. These “Gassers” as they are frequently called were adopted by Austria at the end of the 19th Century but have become more strongly associated with Montenegro due to King Nicolas’s proclamation that “Every male citizen of Montenegro is a member of the Militia, and therefore not only justified but also obliged to possess at least one Gasser Pattern revolver.” Since everyone had one, it was fashionable to make them into status symbols or fashion statements thus many are decorated, some more elaborately than others. The title 'Montenegrin Gasser' covers a variety of six-shot large caliber revolvers. The standard issue in the Montenegrin military was the Austrian Gasser Model 1870 in 11.3mm which became known as the Montenegrin Gasser. Montenegrin revolvers originally appeared as open-frame models, similar to the Austrian Gasser Model 1870 and usually in 11.3x36mmR. Single and double-action locks were used, grips were often in ivory or bone, engraving and gold inlay work was common, and the predominant impression was one of weight and bulk. Later Montenegrin revolvers offered hinged-frame construction, with Galand cylinder locks and a self-extracting mechanism. Most are marked 'Guss Stahl' (crucible cast steel frame), “Kaiser's Patent”, “Alder’s Patent”, and similar phrases. The overall condition is good. Original nickel finish. The action is strong. The bore is patinated with good rifling. The bone grips are solid. The numbers match. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 3-7/8 inches. Caliber: 11.3x36mmR Gasser Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
