ENGRAVED Antique FRANK WESSON Two-Trigger Rifle
Description: ENGRAVED Antique FRANK WESSON Two-Trigger Rifle 1860s Gorgeous & Handy Sporter in .38 Rimfire Here we present an Engraved Frank Wesson Two-Trigger Single Shot Rifle, made circa 1864 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only about 5,000 were made from the end of the Civil War to the mid-1870s. Frank Wesson was the younger brother of Daniel B. Wesson, of Smith & Wesson, as well as Edwin Wesson, who was also a highly-esteemed gunsmith in the mid-to-late-1800s. The fame of his family’s name was not lost on Frank, but he was, in fact, a prolific firearms designer and maker in his own right. He was granted patents in 1859 and began producing rifles of this two-trigger configuration. The Civil War was a fantastic opportunity for many different inventors and over 20 different carbines were used during the conflict on the Union side. Frank Wesson made a version of his rifle in a .44 caliber rimfire carbine format that was specifically geared for Cavalry troops. He also made carbines and rifles in various calibers for the commercial market. This rifle features a 26-1/4 inch octagonal barrel marked “FRANK WESSON WORCESTER MASS.” with patent dates of 1859 and 1862. The markings appear correct but are stamped over lighter markings. The iron frame, trigger guard, and butt plate feature excellent scroll work throughout. The overall condition is very good. The barrel bears an even plum patina. The markings are clear. The walnut butt stock has been lightly sanded and remains solid. The bore is sharp and clean. The action is excellent. The hammer mounted rimfire firing pin is absent. Here is a scarce and unique rifle with lots of charisma! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26-1/4 inches. Caliber: .38 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2650 #6168 SOLD Antique: Yes |
