Cowboy Single Action .44 Revolver

Description:
With a serial #28,and with  44-40 caliber,  this  7 3/8” barrel has  an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces have mostly toned to a mix of deep gray and plum-brown patina showing light pitting and old oxidation staining scattered throughout. The number “28” is visible on the underside of the frame and the trigger along with “CAL 44” on the left side of the frame,where Colt patent dates would havew been,  though there are no apparent maker markings visible on the barrel or other obvious proof marks. One of the backstrap screws is missing and a number of screws are later replacements as are the hammer, base pin and ejector rod housing and associated parts. The smooth walnut grips rate about good with rather poor fit showing gaps around the frame, scattered dings and five notches along the right panel. The hammer notches are good,  and it  does index and lock uo tight. . An interesting and rather salty single action revolver with a lot of character, most lkikely 19th century black powder cartridges used and ;possibly m]not safe to shoot?
