1971 Colt Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative 1851 Navy Revolver in Factory Fitted Display Case w/ Accessories *Unfired & Mint!*

Description:
Introduced and offered in 1971 only, this is a Colt Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative 1851 Navy .36 caliber cap and ball revolver with a beautiful Colt factory fitted display case complete with all of the factory accessories needed to fire it.  Colt initially planned to make 5000 of these beauties, but a high price and low demand resulted in less than 4500 made before Colt pulled the plug on it.  As a result of the shortened production run, these Ulysses S. Grant commemoratives are a little scarcer today and have a very nice following due to the excellent build quality and attention to detail.  This particular example is like-new and unfired, bought by the original owner in 1971 and put into storage until now.  The factory finishes are all clean, bright, and handsome, rating 98 to 99%.  Finding 1 to 2% worth of deductions requires a very close inspection.  The factory blue finish is bright and glossy, the color case hardened finish still shows lots of bright color and contrast, and the silver plate has a handsome, slightly-darkened aged patina.  The smooth varnished Walnut 1-piece grip is beautiful and free from any wear or damage.  The action on this 1851 Navy is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time", and all of the controls on this Colt are in perfect working order.  This Colt Navy would function 100% like the day it left the factory if fired today.  The American Walnut factory display case it comes with is superb, fitted to the gun, and includes all of the accessories; including a repro "Eley Bros"  period cap tin, a repro Colts Navy Flask with an adjustable powder measure spout made in England by James Dixon & Sons in Sheffield, a blued steel nipple wrench/screwdriver, and a "Colt's Patent" brass 2-bullet mold (round ball and conical bullet).  All of the accessories are like-new and in perfect working order.  The lining of of the case is very handsome consisting of blue velvet felt in the lower half compartments and a purple-blue fabric lining in the lid embossed with "Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative Nineteen Seventy One" in gold lettering and an embossed gold Rampant Colt medallion.  The lid of the case is branded with "Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative Nineteen Seventy One" and the lower right corner of the lid carries a Colt serpentine medallion embedded in the wood.  The Walnut case has brass hinges and a functioning brass lock in front with the key provided.  In addition to the factory case this Colt also comes with the original outer 2-piece cardboard shipping box and all of the factory paperwork the gun originally shipped with.  This cardboard box has some tape-repaired corners but is in O.K. condition overall, and all of the factory paperwork is in great shape.  This vintage Colt 1851 Navy Ulysses S. Grant commemorative would be an excellent addition to any arms collection as a long-term investment, and would also make for a very handsome and classy display piece in your home.  As nice as this example is, it could never be upgraded.   As a black powder weapon such as this Colt can be shipped directly to your home with no FFL needed.
