Description:
Rare US Cavalry that was bought back by Colt.
Colt then shortened barrel to 4 13/16. Because government stipulations said it couldn't be a standard 4 5/8. Anyway that's government for you.
It was engraved, probably by either Nimscke or Helfrich's prote'ge'. Might have been Glahn in his early days. Looks a lot like Herman Ulrich He would've been young in those days. Who knows. Good engraving work.
Most of the small number that were buybacks were not engraved and fitted with Ivory grips. This has got to just a handful done this way.
