Antique Colt Single Action 38-40 Caliber 5 1//2" Barrel With Original Period Holster. Excellent Mechanics. Honest Colt..
Description:
Antique Colt Single Action Army.. Here is a nice and honest Colt SA with the 5 1/2” barrel and is in my favorite shooting caliber 38-40.... S/N 175688 and is matching on all 3 locations.. Colt stopped numbering the cylinders and barrels long before this date.. This Colt was MFG. In 1898 so just makes as and antique so no FFL needed. Comes with it's original correct time period holster that fits the gun perfectly and looks to have bee together for a very long time. I sent a letter for this one as I do all of my Colt revolvers and it came back as a lost or destroyed letter as this sometimes happens. I have had several over 35 years that came back this way. But I can say this gun is absolutely correct and is as shipped from the factory. The mechanics are excellent.. A very crisp and tight gun with perfect indexing and solid and tight lock up with just very slight play.. Absolutely tight enough to shoot with proper black powder loads if you intend to do so. The hammer is original to the gun and has the correct knurling and all the hammer notches are correct and positive. All the markings are clear.. Gun shows no buffing or cleaning. Untouched front sight never filed down or messed with. This ole Colt still shows traces of blue around both trigger guard bows and the ejector housing. { see photos }. Also shows some “ silvered out “ case colors on the frame mostly noticeable on the right side. The rest of the metal is basically a smooth medium gray with a few honest dings and mars. No pitting to speak of but just a very little minor pin pricks at the front of the cylinder from black powder flash. No bad pitting at all and just shows honest use. Correct original ejector housing, ejector rod and head. The grips fit perfectly but for a little warp gap at the bottom right front from over tightening as can be seen. Looks like the letter “ E “ carved in the bottom right and a small crack on the bottom left but is still solid. No other cracks. The grips are worn smooth from honest wear but they fit perfectly all around so I would be safe to say these are probably the original grips.. No number on the inside but has some initials. A “ W “ and a “ WH “.. Both grips fit very snug and are a snap on fit and difficult to remove by tapping on the loosened grip screw to knock off the right grip and then tapping off the left from the inside.. The bore is very good with very minor roughness but no pits or bulges. The cylinder chambers are excellent with no roughness. All but a couple of the screw heads are clean and sharp with no tool marks. The single loop holster is solid and very well made with all the original tight stitching.. It has the very popular of this time period basket weave pattern on the front.. No makers mark. The right thin section above the loop has torn.. As I mentioned, this holster is a perfect time period for the gun and I believe it has been with the gun for a long time but of course no way to tell this for sure. Absolutely made for a 5 1/2” Colt SA. Just a real nice and honest set for the money.. No it is not a 44-40 or .45 made in 1880 but the price on this one is not $5000 or more either !!!!.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. I want happy customers.. $35 USPS shipping.
