1934 L.A.P.D. Inscription COLT OFFICER’S Model TARGET Revolver .38 SPECIAL
With Factory Letter 3 1/2 lb. Trigger!
Description: 1934 L.A.P.D. Inscription COLT OFFICER’S Model TARGET Revolver .38 SPECIAL With Factory Letter 3 ½ lb. Trigger! Here we present a C&R Factory Lettered Colt Double Action Officer’s Model Target Revolver with an LAPD Inscription, manufactured in 1934 in Hartford, Connecticut. The factory letter states that this piece was shipped in its current configuration and with a specific 3 1/2 lbs trigger pull targeted at 25 yards when shipped to Wm. H. Hoegee in Los Angeles California on July 25, 1934. The right side of the frame has been inscribed “C. W. OLSON 500 L.A.P.D.” with a rose in the same zig-zag engraving pattern. We were able to find an article in Daily News, a Los Angeles paper from February 23, 1939 that recounts how Policemen C.W. Olson and W.L. Thornton busted a counterfeiter! We also found that the recipient, William H. Hoegee, of the revolvers was a policeman as well in nearby Monrovia. Check out the charming 1930s articles in the photos! This variant was introduced in 1927 and produced until 1949. In 1904, Colt manufactured their first medium frame double action revolver like the Colt Officer’s Model we have here. This was technically a variant of the original Colt New Army and Navy Series of 1892 to 1908. For 65 years they manufactured this handgun built on the “E” frame under several different names, one of them being the “Officer’s Model”. Each one was manufactured first and foremost as a target revolver and specifically not as a general-use handgun. These revolvers were available in .22 long rifle, .32 Long Colt and .38 Special, though Colt dropped the .32 Long Colt chambering in 1940. The Officer’s Model was the top of Colt’s revolver line as a target revolver until the introduction of the Colt Python in 1955 and in 1969 the Colt Officer’s Model was dropped from production. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Clear markings. Matching numbers. The action is excellent in double and single action. The bore is bright with nice rifling. The grips show use and remain solid. A very neat piece from 1930s LA! Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6 inches.
