First DA Swing Out Cylinder Used by the US Military
Description: Scarce 1902 mfg. COLT NEW ARMY & NAVY .41 Long Double Action REVOLVER C&R First DA Swing Out Cylinder Used by the US Military Here we present a C&R Colt New Army & Navy Double Action Revolver, made in 1902 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1892 through 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut. Production of the New Army/Navy ended in 1907, with the highest serial number recorded at 293141. The M1892 Colt Army and Navy was the first general issue double action revolver with a swing out cylinder used by the U.S. military. In 1892 the gun was adopted by the Army in .38 Long Colt caliber, and the revolver was given the name of New Army and Navy. Initial experience with the gun caused officials to request some improvements. This would be an ongoing condition, resulting in Models 1892, 1894, 1896, 1901, and 1903 for the Army, all being a variant of the Model 1892. A Model 1892 revolver was recovered from the USS Maine after it exploded in Havana Harbor in 1898. It was presented to then-Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt, who would later become President of the United States. Roosevelt brandished this pistol to rally his Rough Riders during the famed charge up San Juan Hill on July 1, 1898. By the time production ceased in 1907 (the gun would be kept in the government inventory for several years after that) more than a quarter of a million versions of the Army & Navy had been made. Not a bad track record for an arm that many consider something of a failure. The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish is preserved in low trafficked areas. Bright, rifled bore. Excellent, tight action. Both grips are firmly seated while the right is missing a chip in the toe. Markings are legible. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .41 Long Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #240834 Price: $1,800.00 Buy Now Curio/Relic: Yes Contact Seller |
