Here we present a Scarce C&R Colt “New Service” Flattop Target Model Double Action Revolver, made in 1906 in Hartford, Connecticut. This one has the distinct flat top frame which Colt favored on many of its target models. Upgraded sights, to include the rear being windage adjustable, knurling on the front and back of the grip, fancy checkered grips, and more highly tuned trigger are also features of this revolver.
The Colt New Service is a large frame, large caliber, double-action revolver made by Colt from 1898 until 1946. In 1898, Colt Firearms released a new six-shot revolver chambered for the .45 Long Colt cartridge as the Model 1898 - better known as the "Colt New Service". As the years progressed, it was chambered in .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley, and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers.
The overall condition is near fine. Original blue finish. The action is excellent and strong with very nice trigger in both double and single action modes. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The grips are solid and nicely checkered. The numbers match. There is a discreet import marking on the frame that is hidden by the cylinder crane.
