ANTIQUE COLT CONVERSION OF THE MODEL 1851 NAVY WITH RARE 5" BARREL
Description:
The item for sale is a Colt Conversion of the Model 1851 Navy revolver with the rare 5" barrel. It features nickel plating with ivory grips. It is chambered for the 38 centerfire cartridge. The serial number of this revolver 3399 indicates this was manufactured by Colt as a cartridge revolver. This is a very scarce revolver as total factory production of the Model 1851 Navy conversion is estimated at 3800 (approximately 2000 rim fire and 1800 centerfire). Standard barrels were octagon and 7 1/2" ("a few 5" barrels were produced and these are rarities") Reference: THE BOOK OF COLT FIREARMS, R.Q SUTHERLAND, page 224.
As the photographs show the revolver has been re-nickeled. Mechanically the revolver functions as designed and intended by Colt. This is a matching numbers scarce! revolver as shown in the photos. A nice addition to any Colt collection.
