Colt Trooper MK V- Factory Prototype .357 Magnum 6" w/ Case
Description:
Presented here is a rare purchase opportunity for serious Colt collectors and enthusiasts: a Colt Trooper Mark V that is not rare due to low production or distribution numbers but rather because it never even made it to production–it is a true factory experimental prototype. It was produced in a run of exactly one.
Bearing a Colt factory “X-prefix” serial number, this revolver has all the hallmarks of a factory prototype. The 6-inch solid-ribbed barrel is indicative of an extremely early production Mark V, and the entire revolver is finished in Colt’s wonderfully deep blue. The stocks are Colt presentation stocks in walnut, with gold Colt medallions. A finely checkered hammer and smooth trigger make handling this revolver a dream. I have not fired this gun, and I see no evidence of it having been fired in the past. There is some extremely minor wear to the bluing from handling and storage in the presentation case it comes in. Personally, I suspect this revolver was released by Colt as a sales sample or display model used to preview and showcase the Mark V as the next (and ultimately final) iteration of their iconic Trooper line.
Interestingly enough, the sequentially numbered Trooper in nickel that is numbered immediately before and in the same manner as this Trooper surfaced several years ago at , and it bears many of the exact same characteristics, aside from finish, as the one being offered here in blue. If you are lucky enough to own that nickel one, imagine what a handsome pair the two would make together! A link to that listing is included here for your reference and consideration:

The presentation case holding this gun is a tasteful and elegant object on its own, finished in brown leather and bearing the Colt seal. Having this revolver leave the factory in a presentation case rather than a retail-sale box reinforces the theory that it was intended for display and introduction of the Mark V model line rather than sale. Also included with this lot is a copy of the 1982 Colt Firearms Catalog, which introduces the Mark V line, and features photographs of revolvers bearing a striking resemblance to this one. While I have no way to ascertain whether this revolver was necessarily the one photographed and appearing in the catalog, I do find this distinct possibility intriguing. Regardless, the rollout of the Mark V line provides a fascinating glimpse into the final era of Colt’s producing the Trooper line of revolvers, focused on duty use. A prototype of this era is truly a unique find.
Please see all photographs for a full assessment of the condition of this wonderful revolver. I am happy to provide any additional photographs to an interested party.
