Antique Colt 1877 Thunderer SHERIFF Model Revolver
Description: Antique Colt 1877 Thunderer SHERIFF Model Revolver Etched Panel .41 Colt Made in 1880 Here we present an antique Colt Model 1877 “Thunderer” Revolver, manufactured in 1880 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Model 1877 was offered in three different calibers, which led to the three unofficial names. The “Lightning” which was chambered in .38 Long Colt. The “Thunderer” which was chambered in .41 Colt. And, the “Rainmaker” which was chambered in .32 Colt. Neither "Lightning" nor "Thunderer" were Colt designations and were not used by the factory in any reference materials. Both terms were coined by Benjamin Kittredge, one of Colt's major distributors. Kittredge was also responsible for the term "Peacemaker" for the Colt Single Action Army. The 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 caliber was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid and was his weapon of choice when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. This Colt Thunderer is in the configuration known as the “Sheriff’s Model”, simply meaning that it lacks an ejector rod. The left side of the barrel is acid etched “COLT D.A. 41” very clearly. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CT/HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The left side of the frame is marked “PAT.SEPT. 18, 1871/PAT.SEPT.15, 1874/PAT.JAN. 19, 1875”. The overall condition is fine. The nickel finish is about 90% complete. Nice deep blue remains on the back of the hammer. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The Colt trademark hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is clear and bright with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a very nice example of a Colt Thunderer Sheriff’s Model Revolver! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches. Caliber: .41 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
