Custom Colt 2nd Gen SAA
Description: In my world we say. "buy the gun not the story". Without a doubt wise advice on this Colt. The Colt Archives letter (included) says this gun's serial number is a 1957 production, 2nd Gen Colt Buntline, 45 Colt in caliber. But that is not the gun we are looking at. This is a true Colt SAA Aficionado's gun. Obviously rebuilt (guessing Alan Harton's work from Texas but have not verified) adding the majority of the fine metal work detailing that Colt was famous for around 1900 and had dropped by the early 1930s or before. Here is a short list. Be sure to check out the details and photos for yourself. The hammer? The hammer's top end is beveled to mate the top of the frame. The hammer spur is hand checked and bordered in a post 1905, pre 1909 pattern. The fixed firing pin is from late 1 Gen, early 2nd Gen production and proper for this gun. The hammer is blued with polished flats. Which Colt used on occasion from 1886 on. The frame? It is a modern steel, 2nd Gen, cross pin frame. The style Colt first used in 1897 but this one is modern 1957 steel. The back of the trigger guard, where it meets the grip corners has been beveled. A small but worthy touch added originally to enhance the durability of any natural grip material. The trigger guard is rounded. The same style classic trigger guard shape Colt used only from 1894 to 1917. The barrel? A first Gen barrel with a slightly tapered, large "flag" front sight. Used by Colt from 1913 to 1940 on 1st gen guns. The frame has the square rear notch used from 1932 on. The NOS 1st barrel is properly marked as a "45 Colt" on the left side and has the roper two-line address on top. The cylinder? There are two. The original 1957 cylinder and a new production, Colt cylinder with the earlier 1877 to 1904 bevels and the big, 1st Gen style flutes. The grips? Perfectly fit, two-piece, fancy American walnut, in Colt's turn of the Century Fleur-de-lis pattern by Richarxd Counts. They are stunning. The action, trigger and cylinder gap? Are, as one would rightly expect of a gun of this quality, simply perfect in all respects. A light trigger pull, a tight, solid action and a tiny cylinder gap. Better than any currrent Colt product.. This is a true, Colt Aficionado's, gun. Very likely a one of a kind gun. All the best Colt offered back in the day, enhanced on a modern Colt firearm. Buy the gun not the story. The gun looks to be unfired since the rebuild. Shipped free from FFl to FFl. If you have any question, please feel free to ask. Happy to add additional photos if the white dog hair is distracting. And no, this gun was not sued in the Russel Crowe version of "4:10 to Yuma". That is just an unintentional typo :) SOLD Handgun Caliber: .45 Colt Manufacturer: Colt Model: SAA Serial Number: 16XXXSA Condition: excellent Metal Condition: excellent Wood Condition: excellent Bore Condition: excellent |
