COLT-USFA Single Action Army .45 Colt, One Of A Kind Custom Gun, 1876 Serial Number & Rollmarks, Turnbull Color Case, Charcoal Blue & Fire Blue Screws
Description:
USFA - COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45, BLACK POWER FRAME, 1876 SERIAL NUMBER (242XX) WITH PERIOD CORRECT COLT MARKINGS AND FINISHES. This custom revolver started as a US made USFA Pre-War model with the black powder frame, V-notch rear sight, early hammer style, beveled cylinder, and bullseye ejector head. Turnbull finishes include charcoal blue, color case frame & hammer, with fire blue screws, trigger, and base pin. The back-dating was completed by a renowned Colt restoration specialist (see below). He fit a new 5 1/2" barrel roll-marked with the first block letter version of the Colt address line introduced in mid 1876. A custom-built front sight was added with the proper contour, height, and correct 7º taper to align with the V-notch rear sight. The left side of the barrel is free of roll-marks as were early Colts prior to 1887. He stamped 45 CAL on the left rear trigger guard flat per 1876. The one-piece walnut stocks were reshaped with the early flush fit at the frame, and finished with a carefully matched authentic reddish stain and hand-rubbed polyurethane. The grip has a shallow bevel at the butt like many early civilian examples. Result is a superb quality one-of-a-kind beauty customized to replicate an early civilian Colt 45. There is little about this revolver that would distinguish it from an original Colt. It remains unfired and unturned but, unlike the original it can fire modern smokeless cartridges. I had this lookalike built to be a shooter, but I never loaded the cylinder. I did enjoy admiring it...
Included with sale: Two sets of grips supplied, the factory one-piece walnut stocks, and a custom-fit one-piece Tru-Ivory® set with antique "deep dish" Colt medallions from Nutmeg Sports. These grips are flat across the butt as were many early ivory stocks from Colt. Tru-Ivory® was a product of the defunct Bar-S Grips company. These faux ivory grips display subtle grain pattern, are indistinguishable from genuine, but more durable. Both Colt and USFA offered Tru-Ivory® grips as a Custom Shop upgrade for new guns. The antique medallions are the first style of Colt medallion. They were unique in that the Rampant Colt faces the muzzle on BOTH sides of the gun, making these the most sought after Colt medallions by collectors. On all subsequent Colt medallions the colt faces rear on the right grip panel. Also included is the original 7 1/2" barrel with USFA italics roll-mark (it has matching charcoal blue finish, is unblemished, but appears silver in the photo), USFA box with shipping carton, owner's manual, cloth gun sock, order papers, receipt from custom gunsmith, and related docs. Name of the gunsmith will be supplied on request. He has done contract work for Colt and discretion will not allow publishing his name. I believe this is the only non-Colt he ever worked on. Must be shipped to a US FFL dealer and must be legal at your location. Shipping via shipmygun (a partner of Bud's Gun Shop) will be $49 plus $70 for insurance, $119 total. I welcome all questions and offers. Additional photos on request. Thank you for looking...
