1882 Mfg. Antique BLACK POWDER Colt SAA in .45
Description: 1882 Mfg. Antique BLACK POWDER Colt SAA in .45 .45 COLT with Mother of Pearl Grips! Here we present an antique Black Powder Frame Colt Single Action Army, made in 1882 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt “Peacemaker” was introduced in 1873 and has become one of the most iconic firearms in all of history, thanks to its widespread use by the U.S. military, civilians and, more recently, in Western films. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt’s began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. This .45 Colt SAA was made in 1882 and shows every appearance of being a well-used, well-loved revolver. Mother of Pearl grips have been added, along with a Colt replacement barrel and cylinder, and it was finished in silver. According to family lore, this revolver was shipped back to Colt in the 1950s for these updates but Colt did not keep documentation to this effect. The right side of the barrel reads “COLT’S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The trigger guard is marked “45 CAL”. The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 45”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT.SEPT.19.1871/PAT.JULY.2.--72/PAT.JAN.19.--75”. The overall condition is very good. The silver finish is about 80% on the frame. The markings are clear and legible. The mother of pearl grips are in great condition. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .45 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
