Colt Officers Model Heavy Barrel Custom .38 Special Target Revolver
Description:
This Family Collection Listing is a Used; SN 625,2XX; Colt Officers Model Heavy Barrel .38 Special Target Revolver. The Colt
indicates a 1950 OFFICERS MODEL SPECIAL (what Fjestad calls FOURTH ISSUE) but the features and markings suggest it was made between 1935 – 1949, possibly a variant of the OFFICERS MODEL TARGET (THIRD ISSUE) according to Wilson, Serven and Fjestad references. The top of the barrel is marked in two Lines “COLT’S PT. FA. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D. AUG. 5, 1884. JULY 4, 1905. OCT. 5, 1926.” The left side of the barrel is marked in staggered lines: “COLT/OFFICERS MODEL/38 / / *HEAVY BARREL*”. It has Colt’s Matted Topstrap and Screw-Adjustable + Friction Set-screw Windage-Only Target Rear Sight and what could be a copy, or a genuine, unmarked King’s Gun Sight Company of San Francisco Elevation-Adjustable Front Sight that has an large elevation range and large screws (no King’s mirror). The Asymmetric and Deep Border-Checkered (so-called “Cockeyed”) Target Hammer Offset to the Left for the Right Thumb is typical of King’s Patent; and the Extra-Long 180-degree Curved Trigger also could be King’s: Deeply Checkered and so wide and long that it nearly fills the Trigger Guard. These are only descriptions to accompany the photos; without King’s markings, we cannot be sure. What look like Original Grips cover the Frontstrap and Bottom of the Grip Frame leaving open the Factory Border-Checkered Backstrap. The Cylinder has a very light line that barely affects the bluing. Other condition and finish characteristics are shown in the photos. The barrel is bright; rifling is sharp; and mild-to moderate marking is present in the chambers ahead of the case mouth. This Revolver shows moderate wear for age, and not being dealers or experts, we estimate the condition at 75-80 Percent Original Finish. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Air Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
