Excellent Very Early Colt New Service Revolver
Description:
An excellent original and very early first model Colt 'New Service' revolver. The quite low four digit serial indicates it was built mid-year 1899. This Colt has a 7 1/2" barrel and is .44-40 wc caliber.
This 'New Service' would have been a very useful companion for those involved in the Klondike Gold Rush or the last decade of the American Frontier.
CONDITION: This Colt is in excellent original condition with all proper first model 'New Service' features and markings including stepped frame, non tapered barrel, early Colt SAA wide groove rifling, plain ejector rod head, and casehardened hammer. The revolver retains 97% original high polish blued finish with some slight high edge wear and some finish browning on the backstrap. the trigger and all screws retain their fire blue finish and the hammer retains 975 original casehardened finish. The bore is shiny excellent witf a couple of tine age marks. The mechanical functions are excellent. The original hard rubber grips are excellent and bear matching proper scratched in serial numbers.
A very scarce high condition example of one of the first of its model, most of which saw heavy service. An exceptional piece for the 'New Service' or general Colt revolver collector which would be difficult to up-grade. This revolver has been in a private collection for the last twenty years.
