1934 Colt New Service - LAPD Inscribed & Named - Rig With Heiser Shoulder Holster - .38 Special - Los Angeles Shipped
Description: LAPD Inscribed New Service in .38 Special. Shipped in June of 1934 to Harper & Reynolds Co in Los Angeles, known to be one of the retailers that were shipped LAPD New Service orders in the 1930s. The gun shipped in a group of 50 like guns, all with a 3.5 lb trigger pull – specified likely similarly for LAPD officers coming out of the academy. This would fit the standard that the LAPD was using or desiring their officers to use in the 1930s - long barreled .38 Special revolvers. Further cementing the LAPD connection is the fact that the gun is inscribed on the frame underneath he grips with a man’s name and LAPD serial number. The name inscribed appears to be W.R. Harry. Warrants further research. Also comes with a Heiser shoulder holster that fits gun perfectly. The holster is markedin similar font to the engraving on the gun frame in pen on one of the shoulder straps, W.R. Harry, and then a number of other writings that are smudged. One appears to say Corsicana TEX 1934-36. Another says Bay City TEX with an indistinguishable date. Another inscription in ink is very hard to read. Has a pair original style grips that are not original to the gun (narrow butt style – standard but a requested feature on this model) with a screw that sticks out about an 1/8” to the right side. Condition of the gun shows wear consistent with sustained use. The finish is worn all over, edge wear and surface wear to the bluing, with some plum-browning in spots. Bore is great, with good lands/grooves. Overall, it's a cool rig with early Los Angeles Police history attached to it, and likely has more of a story to tell with further research. $1700.00
No shipping to California, unfortunately. Rest of USA is fine. The gun will be packed extremely well and will be shipped via FedEx with insurance to your FFL dealer in the USA (no CA shipping) for $50. The actual shipping cost is likely higher, but I share in the cost in covering the balance to try to help keep the cost low for the buyer. This gun requires a C&R FFL or 01 FFL license for transfer. Payments accepted are cashier’s checks/USPS Money orders (ships business day after arriving), or personal checks (ships 5 business days after arriving). ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I’ll confirm this detail with you upon purchase. I do not accept Returns on used antique collector firearms.
