1917 mfr. ROYAL NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE COLT “New Service”.45 Revolver C&R RNWMP Soon to be Joined into the RCMP
Description: 1917 mfr. ROYAL NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE COLT “New Service”.45 Revolver C&R RNWMP Soon to be Joined into the RCMP Here we present a C&R Colt “New Service” Model Revolver in .45 Colt, made in 1917 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt New Service is a large frame, double-action revolver made by Colt from 1898 until 1946. This World War I era example has “RNWMP 1472”, for Royal Northwest Mounted Police marked on the back strap. The Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP) was a Canadian police force, established in 1873, to maintain order in the new Canadian North-West Territories (NWT) following the 1870 transfer of Rupert’s Land and North-Western Territory to Canada from the Hudson’s Bay Company (c1870), the Red River Rebellion (1869-1870), and in response to general lawlessness, demonstrated by the subsequent Cypress Hills Massacre (1 June 1873), and fears of United States military intervention. The RNWMP combined military, police and judicial functions along similar lines to the Royal Irish Constabulary. A small, mobile police force was chosen to reduce potential for tensions with the United States. Just a few years after this revolver was made, the RNWMP was combined with the Dominion Police to create the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. Excellent, tight action. Bright bore with nice rifling. Sharp markings. Both grips are in good shape with less than average wear. Comes in a nice suede & vinyl shearling lined flap holster by Brauer Bros. of St. Louis. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5 1/2 inches. Caliber: .45 Long Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2395 #215419 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
