Colt Commemorative U.S. Grant and Robert E. Lee matched set
#183 of 250 made in 1971
Description: Only 250 manufactued in this series. 1971 Commemorative Colt Grant-Lee 1851 Navy Percussion Revolvers are one of the most attractive of all of Colt’s black powder replica percussion revolver commemoratives. The history of Colt black powder revolvers goes back to the 1950s when Aldo Uberti of Italy became apprenticed to Beretta firearms. Aldo Uberti had attended the Zanardelli gunsmithing school, and by age 14 he was already apprenticing with Beretta, a determining factor in his early career. He founded Uberti on the eve of the U.S. Civil War's 100th anniversary, when he was approached by U.S. businessmen who wanted to cater to the budding but promising reenactment market. Uberti's first replica was the 1851 Colt Navy revolver, followed by other Colt civil-war-era models. These revolvers, commissioned by the Colt factory continued the line of Colt percussion revolvers as was left off in the 1860s. These percussion revolvers were true to the original design in EVERY respect and today, as far as collectors are concerned are “true” Colt factory specimens as they carried only the Colt name and had NO IMPORT MARKS like later Uberti production revolvers after the agreement expired with Colt. This PAIR OF 1851 NAVY REVOLVERS MADE IN 1971 WERE KNOWN AS THE Grant/Lee 1971 Commemorative Matched Pair Pistol Set. They are a matched pair of Colt 1851 Navy revolvers made in 1971 to commemorate the two great leaders of the Civil War. The guns exhibits the fine Uberti quality that distinguishes Colt commemorative revolvers from later other manufacturer’s productions. Deep rich blue on barrels and cylinders and BEAUTIFUL case colors on frames. Reproduction wooden case housing both revolvers with red interior. Each pistol with ""183"" serial number-one 183GLP and the other 183 LGP. Mint condition. Numbers 183 0f 250 Priced well at $2395 delivered CONUS. NO PAYPAL....
