WW1 Era U.S. Army Colt Model 1917 Revolver in .45 ACP
** All-Original Example ** SOLD
Description:
This is a very nice all-original and honest U.S. Army Colt Model 1917 revolver in .45 ACP. This model was introduced in 1917 as an additional sidearm for the U.S. Military, manufactured to supplement the U.S. Government's Model 1911 contracts. With WW1 raging in Europe there simply were not enough 1911's being produced to arm the rapidly growing American forces. The Model 1917 was made by both Colt and Smith & Wesson and proved to be a well-made gun that was both reliable and powerful with the .45 ACP chambering. The Model 1917 would go on to serve thru WW1, the interwar years, and again in WW2. This particular example was made by the Colt firm and remains in good all-original condition. The original "military blue" factory finish is still intact, showing some light wear and patina that is appropriate for a combat-used gun that is around 100 years old. Most of the finish wear is on the high edges, cylinder sides, and the sides of the barrel near the muzzle. Most of this wear is a result of a being carried in a military-issued leather holster. As you can see from the pictures, this Colt has a very consistent and attractive look to it. The bore in this Model 1917 is excellent and mirror-bright. The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout with no pitting or imperfections, and the six cylinder bores are in excellent condition as well. The original smooth Walnut grips on this Colt are still in place and show wear consistent with the rest of the gun. The left grip panel shows some damage on the lower edge where it was used as a mallet or possibly dropped, otherwise both grips are free from any cracks or repairs. This Colt Model 1917 is in perfect working order, and the cylinder locks up tight with no wiggle at full lock. If you have been looking for a nice all-original Model 1917 for your collection that looks like it was combat-used, this Colt would be an excellent choice.
