Colt Shooting Master .44 Special Square Butt Extremely Rare with Colt Archive Letter
Description: 1937 Colt Shooting Master chambered in .44 Special. The .44 Special chambering is the rarest of all Shooting Masters with only 94 ever built. Making this one even rarer is that it was ordered with a square butt with the round butt being the standard confiruration. Per the included Colt archive letter it was Shipped to W. S. Darley in Chicago, Illinoise March 15, 1937 on Colt Factory Order # 17907/1. It was ordered by the City of Fullerton, California. W. S. Darley was a manufactured of firefighting equipment that still exist today. It must have been a gift to him from the City as a thank you for some type of service or order completed. The Shooting Masters had a special high polish finish that was much more brilliant than there other revolvers as it was the most expensive target revolver they made in the Pre War ear. This one still retains a beatiful dark shine throughout. The left side of the muzzle has a trace of silvering. That is the only high edge wear on the gun with all of the other leading edges remaining sharp. The finish is also absent of any scratches. There is an isolated area of pinprick pitting isolated to the front lower right of the frame. It is very minor a just a little of it can barely be felt with your finger. There is also an area of freckling isolated to one are of the cylinder. Outside of this it is hard to find anything that detracts. The bore is bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves. The lock up is bank vault tight. The trigger has a crisp clean break to it. The grips are exceptional with sharp checkering throughout.
