Colt ~ Model 1878/1902 Philippine ~ .45 Colt
Description: Colt 1878/1902 Philippine chambered in .45 Colt. This revolver is one of the approximately 4,600 accepted by the Springfield Armory in 1902 and shipped to Manila for the Philippine Constabulary to be used during the Philippine Insurrection. These modified revolvers included a stronger mainspring to ensure the hammer had enough force to fire the .45 Long Colt government ammunition. The military ammunition was less sensitive than civilian ammunition. A larger trigger and trigger guard were installed to compensate for the resulting stiffer trigger pull. These revolvers also have a lanyard loop on the butt. The right side of the frame is marked with the U.S. inspector initials "JTT", "1902", and "US.", and the left side of the frame, left side of the trigger guard and the rear cylinder face have the inspector initials "RAC." A "P" proof mark is found on the rear cylinder face and underside of barrel. The loading gate is numbered to the gun. It also has WCCO stamped on the left lower frame. The Western Costume Company was formed by Fox, MGM and Paramount Studios to rent them props for movies. It appears that this revolver was a prop gun at some point. .45 Colt Price: $3,499.99 Curio/Relic: Yes Metal Condition: Good Wood Condition: Good Bore Condition: Bright bore with strong rifling Barrels: 6 Inches Triggers: Factory Sights: Fixed Item Location: La Vista, NE Contact Seller |
