1993 Vintage Colt Detective Special .38 Spl. Revolver (4th Issue) w/ Factory Case, Manual, & Bobbed Hammer
** Minty Example ** SOLD
Description: First introduced in 1927, the Colt Detective Special revolver in .38 Special was a huge success for the Colt firm. It remained in production for 68 years, going thru 4 distinct "issues" during the production run. The readily-concealable double-action revolver was well-made, reliable, and had plenty of knock-down power, the perfect combination for a self-defense revolver. This particular example was made in 1993 during the 4th and final "issue" of the Detective Special. It features a glossy "Royal blue" factory finish, a 2" inch shrouded barrel with a ramped front sight, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, a steel frame, and black rubber grips. This beauty is in excellent condition overall, and could pass for be unfired since leaving the factory. This Colt is all-original except for one modification, the hammer has been "bobbed" at some point. It appears that the original owner bought the gun new and decided to bob the hammer to make it easier to carry in a pocket. Oddly enough, despite the carry modification it does not appear to ever have been actually carried. The factory "Royal blue" finish rates 99%, with the only deduction coming from an extremely faint drag line around the cylinder. This drag line can only be seen under very close inspection at certain angles, it does not detract any appreciable amount from the pristine look of this Colt. The bore in this Detective Special is minty and mirror-bright, with sharp rifling throughout and no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections. The cylinder bores are equally as clean. The original black rubber grips are in like-new condition, free from any wear, damage, tears, or scratches. The molded checkering and textured panels are clean and crisp, and the Rampant Colt medallions are in perfect shape on both sides. The action on this Detective Special is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time" whether it is worked fast or slow, double or single-action. All of the controls on this Colt are also in perfect working order. This revolver should function 100% like the day it left the factory. This Colt comes complete with the original blue plastic factory case and the original factory Owner's Manual. While the plastic case does not have an end label, it is the proper type and age for this revolver. This is a beautiful Colt Detective Special and would be an excellent addition to any firearms/Colt collection.
