Antique Colt 1861 Conversion. Re Nickel Finish. CHEAP.!!!
Description:
Antique Colt 1861 Navy conversion. Here is a cheap refinished Colt 1861 conversion. Standard 7 1/2” barrel and chambered in the .38 Long Colt caliber. S/N 3871 and all matching except the cylinder. It is number 89871 and of course is a cylinder from an Colt 1851 Navy.. The number on the rear face of the cylinder is 7215.. The wonderful book written by the late Bruce McDowell explains these mis matched 51 and 61 Navy conversions as being totally correct. The assembly number 492 on the loading gate matches the arbor pin number. The lines on the sides of the S/N on the butt is not a crack, just a deep scratch. Super crisp barrel address but on a close look, it has been re rolled. Nice and correct re roll but they did not get it lined up perfectly with the original address as on a close look you can see.. The faint percussion COLTS PAT. and the conversion pat marking over stamp is all correct.. The mechanics are excellent. A very tight and crisp gun with very little to no side roll of the cylinder. Rock solid barrel to frame fit with tight wedge.. No wobbles or looseness on this gun anywhere. Bore is strong with usual black powder roughness but no real bad spots and no bulges. The cylinder chambers are the bad news.. They are rough bored by someone after the Colt conversion as Colt did not bore the chambers out like this. I fired this gun on all six chambers and it split 3 cases. I can get a quote from Bobby Hoyt for the cost of re lining the chambers and set up an appointment. He is the best in the business for bore re lining and chambers.. The cost I think is around $20 a chamber but that has been several years ago. Up to the buyer on this decision. The right grip is cracked and has been glued back and is solid. The ejector rod head has a checked pattern and it should has the “target” or concentric ring pattern that these Navy conversions has originally. The rod head looks like it came off of an 1860 Conversion as this is the pattern that was used on those guns. These heads where often broken off and they used what ever they could find that worked. All this said this is a very solid gun and would display very well as it is, or shoot bad guys on your TV western channel, unloaded of course or have the work done on the chambers and have a real nice cheap shooter. Save your real nice high condition Navy conversion and shoot the crap out of this thing.. That is what I do but I have two Navy conversion “ shooters “ so I don't need another one. Won't find one any cheaper !!!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions of more photos. $35 insured shipping.
