Colt Army Special
Description:
One of Colts most accurate pistols.
I won the U.S. National Revolver Match of 1911 and that year Camp Perry match.
The Colt Army Special and the 'Official Police's are one and the same heavy frame revolver and the pistol which succeeded the 'New Army's And 'New 'Navy.'
Manufactured from 1908-1927 in serial range 291,000-540,000.
This pistol has the hard rubber grips which were standard trough 1923.
Unmarried grips. Blue finish, fixed sights, rounded, checkered cylinder release thumb catch, smooth trigger and has a heavier frame than the 'New Navy's which proceeded it.
Six chambers, semi-fluted.
38 special.
Important mechanical changes accompanied this model. The cylinder was made to turn clockwise rather than counterclockwise, a safety lock was added and the cylinder latch better designed.
Although designed for the Army, the police market became the big buyer and when this became obvious, the pistol was renamed 'Official Police,' with no structural changes.
This pistol was carried during World War 'll by Abeedeen Washington Police Officer Severt Haaseth, under my grandfather, John Gillespie, Chief of Detectives.
Not fired since the 1950's
Good bore and bluing, tight lock up.
No obvious mars of scratches.
