SPANISH -AMERICAN WAR MODEL 1901 U. S. ARMY ISSUE .38 COLT DA REVOLVER, #155219, MADE 1901
Description: SPANISH -AMERICAN WAR MODEL 1901 U. S. ARMY ISSUE .38 COLT DA REVOLVER, #155219, MADE 1901. This is the next to the last iteration of the U.S. Army and Navy .38 DA revolver that was standard issue from 1892 and into the first decade of the 20th century. The Model 1901 was the first to have a lanyard swivel fitted to the butt. The last was the Model 1903. Each is marked with the model number on the butt- in this case the butt marking is "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1901 No. 155XXX." These are very historical arms as they saw service in Cuba as well as the Philippines. Interestingly, Teddy Roosevelt used one of these .38 Long Colt caliber DAs to kill an enemy soldier on his charge up San Juan Hill (actually Kettle Hill) with his famed Rough Riders in Cuba. This is a fine example that was obviously issued, but still retains fine blue with wear/thinning in the usual places- sides of the barrel & rear portion of the frame, grip straps, bottom of the trigger guard and edges. There is still good bright blue on the barrel top, rear sections and bottom; much on the frame and cylinder with good fire blue on the lower hammer back and trigger sides. The cylinder release latch and grips have matching numbers with the frame. The bottom of both grips retain the "R.A.C." inspector stamp (Rinaldo A. Carr) as does the rear of the cylinder, frame and barrel. All markings are sharp and clear on the barrel top with the correct last patent date of '95. The front sight has NOT been altered or filed, the mech. is fine and the bore is bright and excellent. A really nice 120+ year old U.S. Army .38 DA Colt. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Handgun Caliber: .38 Long Colt Manufacturer: COLT Model: 1901 ARMY .38 DA Serial Number: 155XXX Barrel Length: 6 Condition: FINE Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
