Item Description
This .31 caliber, flared grip belt pistol was the intermediate size of the guns Col. Colt called his Patersons (the pocket model, the belt model, and the holster model).
This particular Paterson is serial #121 and features a flared grip and a 5-1/2" length barrel, which is the longest length in this model. The barrel address is "Patent Arms M'g Co Paterson N-J Colt's Pt.", reading from the breech to the muzzle. Only 850 examples of this model were produced. Approximately less than 20% are known to have survived to this day.
The highest known serial number of the flared grip model is #527. There are rounded shoulders on the cylinder and a fared-side, double-curved barrel lug. There are only three known in this configuration (Paterson Colt Pistol Variations, p. 39). Traces of the original varnish on the grips. The serial on the grip frame and grips match. The centaur scene on the cylinder is crisp and clear.
