COLT MODEL 1851 "LONDON" NAVY REVOLVER
Description: This is a very nice Colt "London" model Navy Revolver. This is a fine example of one of these desirable London Guns. serial #41217, .36 cal, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with an about good bore showing a patch of moderate oxidation at the breech for about 3" and otherwise bright areas with strong rifling. The barrel of this attractive revolver retains perhaps 20-25% original bright blue with the balance toning to a pleasant plum-brown patina along with some fine pinprick pitting along the high edges and some light tool marks around the wedge. The cylinder has mostly toned to a mild gray-brown patina showing scattered pinprick pitting and operational wear but retains a very strong cylinder scene that remains almost completely intact. The loading lever and frame show some good case-hardened colors lurking about the protected areas with overall toning to a mild silvery-gray patina. The iron backstrap and triggerguard are similar to the cylinder showing a few flakes of bright blue in the protected corners of the triggerguard. The screw heads show some very light slot wear, the wedge screw is a replacement but many of them still retain hints of fire blue. The barrel is appropriately marked with the single line London address, the British proofs and all markings remain very clear. The smooth one-piece walnut grip remains in near excellent condition retaining most of its original varnish with just some very light flaking, a few small dings along the edges and some other light handling marks. All of the serialized parts are matching including the wedge and the action seems to function well mechanically with excellent timing and lock-up. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states.
