1898 Colt New Police Revolver in .32 New Police Caliber
SOLD
Description:
The New Police Model Colt was manufactured from 1896 to 1907. This example is an early one made in the first part of 1898, so it is officially an antique and not subject to ATF regulations. It was chambered in .32 New Police so it will fire the .32 S&W and .32 S&W Longs as well. Both of the S&W cartridges are still readily available today. The ejector rod in this New Police is unique in that it is longer than the usual factory length. We are not sure if this was altered after it left the factory or ordered from Colt this way, but it would make ejecting empty cases easier for someone that had the use of only one hand for example. It was not uncommon during this time period for an individual with a handicap of some kind to special order features from Colt that would facilitate their use of the revolver. As you can see in the pictures, the ejector rod was definitely expertly built, and the patina matches that of the gun. The condition of this Colt New Police is very good overall. The original Colt factory blue is thinning in places, particularly the grip straps, but would still rate 80% +/-. There are handling marks and some minor scratches here and there, but this Colt is still very attractive. The bore is excellent in this New Police. The bore is bright and clean, with strong rifling and no pitting or erosion. The cylinder bores are equally as nice. The original hard rubber grips are in excellent shape. They are numbered to the gun, fit perfectly, and still have nice clean checkering and Colt logos that don't show any wear to speak of. The action on this Colt works 100% like the day it left the factory. It is "in time" and at full lock there is no play in the cylinder. Early Colt double action revolvers have been appreciating in value quite rapidly lately so this would be an excellent addition to any antique firearms collection. Because this Colt is an antique, it can be sent directly to the buyer in most cases.
