1874 Vintage Antique Colt Cloverleaf House Pistol in .41 Rimfire
** Beautiful All-Original & Honest Example! ** SOLD
Description: This is a very nice all-original example of the very distinctive antique Colt Cloverleaf House Pistol, a 4-shot revolver chambered in .41 Rimfire. Introduced in 1871 by Colt, the .41 Rimfire House Pistol features a factory blue or nickel finish, a 1.5" or 3" inch barrel, a spur trigger, a 4-shot cloverleaf-shaped cylinder, and smooth varnished American Walnut grips. It remained in production for less than 6 years until being discontinued in 1876 with total production reaching approximately 7,500 pistols. As the name implies, it was designed to be a self-defense or home-defense gun that anyone could handle with twice the capacity of the Remington Derringer which was also chambered in .41 Rimfire. This particular example is serial number 6361 manufactured in 1874. It features a factory nickel plated finish and a 3" inch barrel. It remains in excellent overall condition for it's age, and is 100% original just like the day it left the factory. All of the numbered parts are matching including the frame, barrel, cylinder, and both grip panels (numbered on backside). The factory nickel finish is in great shape overall and still very attractive and bright, showing only minor wear and handling marks. There are no bad spots or eyesores, the finish is consistent from one end to the other. The worst of the nickel finish wear is on the forward face of the cylinder, typical for a revolver that fired black powder cartridges. The factory blued hammer and trigger also retain most of their original finish, particularly on the face of the trigger and back edge of the hammer where the fire blue is still bright. All 4 of the original frame screws are intact, and 3 out of 4 have near-perfect slots. All of the Colt factory stampings are crisp and clear on both the barrel and top strap. The bore is really amazing in this Colt Cloverleaf House Pistol, a rarity in black powder cartridge revolvers. It is bright and clean and free from any pitting. The rifling is sharp and strong throughout the bore. The 4 chambers in the cloverleaf shaped cylinder are also pretty clean and clear, showing only a little frosting. The original factory grips on this Colt are in great shape and very handsome. They retain 80% of the original factory varnish and both sides are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage. Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame with no wiggle. Both grips are factory numbered with the full serial number on the reverse. This Colt Cloverleaf is in perfect working order with a smooth action that is perfectly "in time" and a cylinder that locks up tight. The hammer still has both the safety notch and full-cock notch intact, and the spur trigger breaks nicely with a light pull. This Colt will function just as reliably today as the day it left the factory over 146 years ago! If you have been looking for an "investment grade" Colt Cloverleaf House Pistol for your collection here is your chance to get one of the better examples we have had in several years. As an antique this can be shipped directly to your home, no FFL needed.
