Description: Colt Engraved 1860 Army Civillian Model Percussion Revolver, .44 percussion caliber, 8 inch bbl, nickel finish, antique ivory one piece grip, 3 screw frame, serial no. 187828, all numbers matching in 4 pictured locations, plus the last 3 digits of the serial number are on the engraved cylinder and cylinder pin. This spectacular firearm is in fine condition. The pistol and its engraving are nearly identical to the pictured photos of Rock Island Company catalog, volume 1, page 85, Lot number 218 for the "December 2-4 Premier Firearms ." Engraving is the same as that shown in the Rock Island photos and has the style commonly seen on revolvers engraved similarly to Gustave Young, with floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the barrel, frame and triggerguard. The top of the barrell is marked withthe one-line "--ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" The left side is marked "COLTS PATENT" The rebated cylinder is floral engraved and marked "COLTS PATENT" AND "828", the last 3 digits of the serial number. The cylinder pin is also marked "828" The pistol has the standard front blade and hammer notch sights. The engraving is deeply etched and crisp and the firearm is fine overall. Style is floral scroll and puch dot. The ivory grips are in fine condition with some shrinkage, minor cracks on the bottom and an attractive colored grain in the ivory. The action is as tight and crisp as a new firearm. This piece of American history was in the lifetime collection of my grandfather, Aberdeen, WA Police Department Chief of Detectives, John Benjamin Gillespie (1899-1973). It has rarely been out of the gunsafe in 80 years.
