Description:
For sale is a set of Colt Dragoon Pistols that I have on consignment. The pistols are 3rd Model Dragoon pistols with rare 8" barrels; serial numbers 17121 & 17122. Built in 1858 these pistols will ship directly to your front door as they are ATF antiques and furthermore, US law doesn't regulate percussion pistols. There is an appraisal letter from John Allen, an expert on Colt Dragoons, a gentleman that has previously appraised Colt pistols for the Cody Firearms Museum. The letter states the Colt pistols are consecutive late 3rd Model Dragoons with 8" barrels and fine mechanics. They also have extra cylinders with matching serial numbers. The appraiser also states original walnut grips and set up for a shoulder stock. My assessment (I am not an appraiser) is that the pistols were found very rusted and where then cleaned. And not just cleaned but overly polished and cleaned. If you look closely at the pictures of the extra cylinders there is rust starting around the nipples. I have seen this many times, its almost like a cancer. Ever after cleaning the rust can take back over. If you look at the small screws on the pistols, many have been replaced. The bores are pitted; one picture attached. The grips have shrunken. Nice old set of overly cleaned, pistols not in original finish, some restamps.
