COLT, M-1851, Cased Restoration, Wild Bill Hickok, SN: 57371, Antique, c.1857
Description:
$$$...REDUCED...$$$ NOT A REPRODUCTION, ORIGINAL ANTIQUE...This Colt Model 1851, 3rd model Navy revolver was manufactured by Colt in 1857. Late in life, it was restored to replicate Wild Bill Hickocks Colt. It was blued and color case hardened. The cylinder remaines in original finish with the rolled scene aged but showing. The trigger guard and frame were silver plated as was Hickok’s Colt. The back strap is engraved “J. B. Hickok 1869” (James Butler Hickok). In 1869 Hickok was elected Marshal of Hays Kansas. Ivory like grips were fitted to complete the revolver.
It was cased with appropriate accessories to commemorate the first gunfight, occurring in Springfield MO on July 21, 1865.
Gamblers Bill Hickock and Davis Tutt parted ways after a poker game. Hickok was unable to cover a bet and left his Pocket Watch with Tutt as collateral with the warning not to flash it about as he wanted it back. Later in the day, Tutt openly displayed it and bragged about being the better gambler. Hickok could not allow his gambling “Business” to be degraded. Late in the day Wild Bill approached Tutt in the main square, in front of many witnesses, and called him out from 75 Yards. Witnesses report the two shots sounded as one, Tutt missed and Wild Bill struck him in the chest killing him. A legend was created.
This nicely cased Colt includes a replica of “The Watch”, Period coins, a Wild Bill Silver commemorative coin, .36 Cal. balls, and the original numbered grips from this antique Colt.
The action is smooth and tight. The bore is dark and rough with strong rifling. The condition is excellent as restored. Serial Number 57371, .36 Cal with a 7 ½” Barrel. Antique, Proof of age & residence required.
