Joslyn Civil War Revolver, 2nd model. .44 cal. percussion
Description: Joslyn Civil War Revolver. Second (civilian) Model. .44 Cal Percussion. One of about 3,000 made of which about 1100 went to the Navy. This revolver is in very good condition. Parts marked with a punch mark and 9 or a 2. The serial number on the bottom of the grips is 532 while the number of the inspector/assembler (269) is stamped inside the right grip frame corner. All markings consist of punch marks ending with a 9 or 2. Double or triple punch marks are also stamped over some of the number markings on the revolver. These appear on other Joslyns so obviously inspector or assembler markings. I am no expert on Joslyns but the overall finish consistency would indicate the revolver is in original condition. The bore has some shine (not mirror) with sharp lands along with light erosion typical of black powder use. Some residual bluing remains along the sides of the barrel and throughout the revolver. The action is tight with very positive indexing of the cylinder. Half cock and full cock emit a definite “click”. Trigger release is sharp. The serial number 532 is stamped on the bottom of the grip. The last digit 2 is stamped under the barrel and bottom of the frame below the cylinder ram. The cylinder rear is stamped with two punch marks and the number 9. The cylinder rod is stamped with two punch marks and a 2. Nipples are clean and in good condition. The link connecting the ram piston to the loading arm is stamped with two punch marks which obliterate some numbers underneath. The loading arm is stamped with two punch marks followed by an undecipherable number or possibly a third punch mark. The inside of the hammer has two punch marks. I haven’t disassembled the revolver any further. Grips are in excellent condition, of the distinctive Joslyn design and have no cracks or chips nor is the checkering smashed. No markings on inside of grips. Metal frame inside a corner of the grip area is stamped 269 which may be the assembler number and why other parts end with a 9. There were only about 3,000 made so I doubt if there were many spare parts, if any. I make no claim as to originality or correctness of this revolver but it certainly appears to be a nice condition Joslyn. Antique so no license required. Shipping is $25 delivered by priority mail to the address of the buyer. Bank/certified/money order. Personal checks accepted after verified bank clearing. SOLD Antique: Yes |
