ENGRAVED Antique CIVIL WAR Era MANHATTAN ARMS .31 POCKET Model Revolver
New Jersey Manufactured PERCUSSION Revolver
Description: ENGRAVED Antique CIVIL WAR Era MANHATTAN ARMS .31 POCKET Model Revolver New Jersey Manufactured PERCUSSION Revolver Here we present an antique Manhattan Arms Percussion Pocket Model Revolver, made circa 1858-62 in Newark, New Jersey. Manhattan Fire Arms Co. was founded in 1856 specifically to capitalize on the soon to be expiring Colt patents in 1857. This strategy worked very well for the company and they began by making high quality and very close copies of both Colts and other popular pistols with expired patents. These revolvers greatly resemble the Colt Model 1849 Pocket and 1851 Navy revolvers. In fact, Manhattan’s copies of Colts were so close that Colt tried to kill their production with a lawsuit, even though their patent had expired. Manhattan’s revolvers were very well received by the public. The company never received U.S. military contracts, except for a small delivery, most likely on the regimental level. Nevertheless, many Manhattan revolvers found themselves on smoky Civil War battlefields, purchased privately by officers and soldiers, and they were certainly in use at home. Whether legend or fact, it is interesting to note something commonly read about pocket revolvers of the day, that while they could be used for self-defense against the enemy, many soldiers kept them on their person to defend themselves against an unwanted amputation in the primitive field hospitals that were notorious, even in their day. The war created a vast and unquenchable market for firearms of all types. The overall condition is good. The action functions, but the return spring is weak requiring manual reset. Good bore for its age. Solid replacement grips. A short crack is present on the top of the left grip. Legible markings. The frame is lightly engraved. Most of the wagon robbery cylinder scene is visible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #247168 Price: $1,600.00 Buy Now Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
