Civil War US 1858 REMINGTON CARTRIDGE CONVERSION New Model ARMY .44 Antique 1870s .44 S&W Russian Cartridge Conversion!
Description: Civil War US 1858 REMINGTON CARTRIDGE CONVERSION New Model ARMY .44 Antique 1870s .44 S&W Russian Cartridge Conversion! Here we present an antique Remington New Model Army Cartridge Conversion Revolver in .44 S&W Russian. The New Model Army was manufactured from 1863 to 1875 with a total production of approximately 132,000 and represented the last of Remington's .44 caliber percussion revolvers. This revolver was likely converted sometime after the Civil War ended with the expiration of the Rollin-White Patent in 1869. The Remington New Model Army represents the second-most number of issued handguns found on Civil War battlefields, second only to the Colt 1860 Army. The New Model Army was the primary revolver issued to Union cavalry after the fire at the Colt's factory in 1863. This revolver bears all the features of the US government contract from the American Civil War to include the single letter inspection markings throughout and the walnut grips marked with the inspector cartouche. At some point after the war, this revolver was converted from percussion to cartridge. The cylinder was cut off in the rear, a spacer plate was placed onto the recoil shield. The hammer was amended with a centerfire firing pin. The .44 Russian was a very popular and readily available cartridge in its day. The overall condition is near fine. The blue finish on the barrel and frame are original. The cylinder was reblued during the conversion. Strong and tight action that hesitates slightly on 1 of the 6 chambers, likely due to a worn tooth on the ratchet (as these were generally carried with one empty chamber this would not have taken this revolver out of service). The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. Both grips are in good condition with the left grip containing remnants of a cartouche. There are single letter inspection markings throughout. The number “34” is stamped on the trigger guard, the hammer, and on the bottom flat of the barrel which is usually covered by the rammer—this number is probably for the conversion as there is a separate serial number. This is a fantastic Civil War issue Remington Army that was given new life in the post-war period! A true cowboy gun! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .44 Russian Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
