Scarce Civil War Smith & Wesson Marked Lucius W. Pond Pocket Revolver 32 RF Antique
Description: Serial #3811, .32 Rim Fire, 5 inch octagonal barrel with a very good, dark bore with good rifling and some roughness. This is the single action, iron frame belt revolver manufactured by Lucius W. Pond in Worcester, Massachusetts from 1861 to 1870. This example dates to the post Rollin White lawsuit period and is one of 4486 pieces that were marked on the barrel "MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 5, 1855" in addition to the "L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS PAT'D JULY 10 1860" marking. In very good to fine antique condition this Civil War era spur trigger has all matching number parts and is mechanically functional with retaining about 10-15% of the original bright blue finish on protected facets of the barrel and trace original case color on the hammer with the balance toning from gray to plum. The lock up is tight with proper cylinder rotation and hammer holding at full cock but not half. The rosewood grips are solid and in near excellent condition. The original screw driver fitted into the frame is missing and there is a slight bend in the external portion of the cylinder pin. A great item for the Civil War or Smith & Wesson collector.
