S&W First Model American in 44-American Transitional Model between 1st & 2nd
Description: THIS IS A S&W First Model American Transitional Model between 1st & 2nd. A very early gun, between 1870 and 1872. VERY RARE AND EXCELLENT SPECIMEN OF AN ANTIQUE THE SERIAL NUMBER IS "7129" SO VERY EARLY PRODUCTION HERE IS WHAT A FRIEND AND GUN MAGAZINE WRITER WROTE ME ABOUT IT : Okay, so that old S&W Schofieldy looking gun seems to be this: First Model American, or the Model No. 3, 1st Model Single Action. A very early gun, between 1870 and 1872. It was well into the old west time. If only it could talk. Caliber is likely .44 American (or .44 S&W), but not .44 Special. The only strange thing is the screw on the bottom of the butt near the serial number. It almost looks as if someone plugged a lanyard ring hole, but they weren’t shipped with lanyards (the Russian revolvers, following this one had them and the commercial models had that as an option). But, I have no doubt someone could get a lanyard ring as an option when this was made, so that might have happened. It does not show the features the Russian or the 2nd. Model has. I’d call it $5500 to $6500, at the higher end since the bore is so nice. I wish I needed one! Roy I’ve attached the section of the book covering it. 1st and 2nd Models Having an interlocking hammer and factory drilled for a lanyard ring with a factory filler screw THE BORE OF THE 8" BARREL HAS VERY MILD PITTING AND THE RIFLING IS ASTOUNDINGLY BETTER THAN 92% THE BLUE FINISH IS PROBABLY 65% WITH SOME RUST PATCHES THE WOOD GRIPS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE FRONT RAMP SIGHT AND REAR GROOVE NO WOBBLE AND SHE COCKS, CLICKS AND SLAMS LIKE SHE SHOULD AS SHOWN IN THESES MANY CLOSE UP PHOTOS WITH NOTHING ELSE UNDERSTAND THAT WE WILL PUT A SIGNATURE ON THE PACKAGE SO IT WON'T GET LEFT ON A PORCH BUYER PAYS A FIXED AMOUNT OF 35.00 INSURED SHIPPING TO THE LOWER MAINLAND STATES, ALASKA, HAWAII OR PUERTO NO SHIPMENTS OUTSIDE THE USA.
