UBERTI COLT “TEXAS” PATERSON No. 5 Revolver .36 Caliber PERCUSSION Ranger Scarce Replica of Samuel Colt’s Paterson, NJ Revolver
Description: UBERTI COLT “TEXAS” PATERSON No. 5 Revolver .36 Caliber PERCUSSION Ranger Scarce Replica of Samuel Colt’s Paterson, NJ Revolver Here we present an Uberti Colt “Texas” Paterson No. 5 Revolver in .36 Caliber. Only about 1,000 of the originals were produced, making it quite rare, indeed. This was the largest of the early Paterson (New Jersey) Colt revolvers and they are associated with Texas due to their use by Texas Ranger Jack Hays as well as the Republic of Texas in general—this before Texas achieved statehood or even became a part of the United States. Perhaps the most famous user of the Paterson No. 5 was Texas Ranger Captain Samuel Hamilton Walker of Colt-Walker revolver fame. He had used the Paterson and saw great potential, despite Samuel Colt’s Paterson company having gone out of business. He approached Samuel Colt to improve the Paterson design: to make it much larger, more reliable, and powerful. It was chambered in .44 caliber and would be capable of taking man or horse at appropriate ranges. The result was the Colt-Walker and the rest is history. The Paterson Revolvers were the Colonel’s first foray into firearms manufacture. His original patent came in 1836 for the concept of the hammer revolving the cylinder one position and locking it into place. It has been said that his inspiration came from his time aboard a ship, observing the mechanics of the capstan, a revolving cylinder for winding rope that had the ability to lock in position, just like Colt’s single action mechanism would. Always the master at self-promotion, he got together an investment group to help fund his idea and he produced several thousand pieces in both handgun and long gun variants. However, they were quite expensive and military contracts did not materialize to any significant extent despite his best efforts. The company would fold in 1843, but Colt would not rest on his laurels. He worked on sundry other projects until he resumed work on firearms with his collaboration with Captain Samuel Walker in 1847. The Paterson Revolvers truly laid the groundwork for what was to become a massive success. This one has the stagecoach robbery cylinder scene. The Paterson barrel address is on the top flat of the octagonal barrel. The overall condition is near fine. The action remains strong. The bore is in fine shape, bright with sharp rifling. The grips are in fantastic condition. 70% of the blue finish remains with as much of the case colors. The cylinder scene is clear! The serial number is “127”. For some reason it seems fitting that even the replica of the Colt Paterson is a scarcity. Fill the niche in your collection today! Barrel is 7-1/2 inches. Caliber: .36 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! ancestryguns $1300 #20565 SOLD Antique: Yes |
