Tranter Model 1868 Solid-Frame DA Revolver (Published)
Description: Serial #54209, .380 CF, 4 3/8" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has spots of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that retains 80-85% of the original bright nickel finish with the balance flaked to mottled plum-brown, especially along the barrel and topstrap. The cylinder has a mostly gray patina, but with muted original color case-hardening under mild freckling. The ejector rod housing has a clear “TRANTER'S PATENT" marking on the swivel arm, but the grasping “ears" of the cylinder pin are missing. The frame has the usual Tranter “football" marking on the right side, and the barrel is improperly marked by the factory, “230" instead of “380". The checkered walnut grip has small handling marks and blemishes scattered about, with sharp checkering points. The action lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism is fully functional, although the cylinder tends to over-rotate. This is the very gun pictured on pg. 126 and 127 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007), and would make a nice addition to any collection of Tranter handguns.
