Description:
Serial #81825, .22 RF, 3 3/16" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some pitting within the grooves, heaviest towards the breech. This is a very handsome revolver that has matching assembly numbers on the frame and barrel ("Q44") and has retained about 20-25% of the original bright blue on the barrel, mostly remaining under the rib and on the bottom facet under the ejector pin. The balance of the barrel has turned to a mellow plum-brown patina over time, with some thin silvering along the edges. More blue remains on the cylinder which, although correct, is assembly numbered to a different gun ("U77"), and has gray fading at the edges fore and aft. The frame retains 90-92% of the original silver plate finish that has tarnished to a rich, luminous blue-black color over time. Some of the underlying brass can be seen where the silver has thinned over time, mostly along the hard edges, and at the tip of the spur trigger. Muted original color case-hardening can still be seen on the sides of the hammer. The rosewood grips are original and numbered to the gun on the interior. They are in very good-fine shape, with only some minor handling marks and small blemishes scattered about, as well as some mild wear to the varnish around the butt. The lock-up is still tight and there is no lateral play in the barrel. This is a very nice No. 1 S&W, and is in fine condition overall. Antique
