Excellent Antique Otis A. Smith 1873 Patent 32 RF Single Action Revolver
Description: Serial #5255, .32 Rim Fire, 3 inch round barrel with a bright, near excellent bore showing strong rifling and small hints of scattered roughness. This is an Otis A. Smith revolver marked only "Smith's Patent / April 15, 1873" on the top strap and otherwise unmarked common for this Rockfall, Connecticut manufacturer from the 1870's into the 1890's. The metal surfaces retain about 97% original nickel finish showing some light flaking to oxidized brown patina along the forward edges of the cylinder and nearer the breech, the cylinder also with some mild edge wear. The hammer and cylinder release assembly retain a healthy amount of attractive case-hardened colors and the patent marking on the topstrap remains crisp. The smooth rosewood grips remain in very fine condition retaining most of their original varnish with some scattered light dings and handling marks. The action seems to function well mechanically with proper indexing, tight lock up and crisp trigger pull. This is an especially nice example of these interesting revolvers that use a plunger-style cylinder retainer that allows for quick removal of the cylinder. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
