SCARCE Very Nice NICKEL PLATED Double Action Revolver

Here we present an antique Maltby, Curtiss & Company “Metropolitan Police” Double Action Revolver in .32 Caliber Rimfire, made circa 1880s in New York, New York. The Maltby, Curtiss Company was formed from the bankrupt Norwich Arms Company in the late 1870s. This Metropolitan Police is a 5-shot self defense revolver that would have been perfect to drop down into one’s coat pocket or tucked in his belt.

This little revolver is quite unique, as the rear sight slides back and locks the hammer down acting as a safety. Marked “Metropolitan Police” on the top of the barrel, it has ornate hard rubber grip. These appear to be quite rare, as “Flayderman’s guide to Antique Firearms” only lists one variant of the Maltby name with no mention of this specific company or model. The left side of the barrel is marked “MALTBY, CURTISS & CO. NEW YORK, U.S.A.” along with the patent information.

The overall condition is excellent. Original finish has been preserved. Robust action. Bight bore. Both grips are in good shape and cast with vivid detail. “FEM” is hand inscribed on the butt of the left grip. Sharp markings.
