RARE Three Barrel PEPPERBOX Revolver MANHATTAN .30 Cal. Percussion Antique ANTEBELLUM Production Revolver from Norwich, Conn.
Description: RARE Three Barrel PEPPERBOX Revolver MANHATTAN .30 Cal. Percussion Antique ANTEBELLUM Production Revolver from Norwich, Conn. Here we present an antique Manhattan 3-Barrel Pepperbox Revolver, made circa 1856-59, prior the American Civil War, in Norwich, Connecticut. This piece is a scarce example of a Manhattan Pepperbox having only three barrels, and the only one of this very short-lived line to have to be manually rotated to the next chamber. The company only produced about 2,500 pepperboxes altogether, though in many different variations, including barrel lengths and number of shots. While all of them featured a double action trigger and hammer, most of them also revolved the barrel with a pull of the trigger. Manhattan Fire Arms Co. was founded in 1856 specifically to capitalize on the soon to be expiring Colt patents in 1857. This strategy worked very well for the company and they began by making high quality and very close copies of both Colts and other popular pistols with expired patents. In fact, Manhattan’s copies of Colts were so close that Colt tried to kill their production with a lawsuit, even though their patent had expired. Manhattan’s revolvers were very well received by the public. The company never received U.S. military contracts, except for a small delivery, most likely on the regimental level. Nevertheless, many Manhattan revolvers found themselves on smoky Civil War battlefields, purchased privately by officers and soldiers, and they were certainly in use at home. The war created a vast and unquenchable market for firearms of all types. The overall condition is fine. Original blue and case colored finish. The action is strong. The bores are in very good condition. The frame is lightly hand engraved. A handsome little triple barrel pistol for display in any collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-1/2 inches. Caliber: .30 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1475 #20283 SOLD Antique: Yes |
