Up for consideration is a Colt single action pistol that is of the first generation and engraved by Ben Shostle. The coverge is around 80 percent and it has been exquisitely executed by this master engraver some time back. The gun has a high polished blue finish with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and it has been further embelished with a one piece African shell grip that would make the average pearl grip look quite shabby. The deep pearlescent colors are quite remarkable and are the nicest I've ever seen on any pistol. The bore is mint and its action is crisp with a persistant 2 1/2 pound trigger let off and no creep. The cylinders line up perfectly with the bore in all cocked positions and the gun will pattern six rounds into 2 inches at point of aim from a distance of 25 yards. There are no obvious disfiguring marks on the gun that I can see and I would consider its condition to be very close to 100%. Its nitre blue screw heads blend beautifully with the charcoal bluing on most of the rest of pistol with the exception being the nicely figured case hardened frame and hammer. The trigger has that luster associated with its charcoal bluing. The timing is so percise that I can barely see any cylinder line because the cylinder stop hesitates during cocking until the stop notches on the cylinder line up exactly with the stop. This is one fine example of an early first generation gun engraved by a master from the past. Ben Shostle had difficulty with his vision toward the end of his career and was forced to discontinue his work early in this century. He unfortunately passed away in 2006. Take a look at the pictures and see if you don't agree with my description of this firearm. You really need to handle this pistol to truly appreciate its quality.
